Tonights dinner, really rough image shot at 3200 ISO with no lights apart from overhead on the bed with a stripy white and blue sheet but Jessie said it tasted good...

Might try again with lights and a better table cloth

It's just my opinion, but I tend to find shots from directly above kind of unsatisfying in food photos. It may have decent documentary purposes (Chinese food menus perhaps), but doesn't do much to make the dish look appetizing.

From a cook's point of view, next time out, you also might want to do a more simple and composed presentation of the dish and definitely clean the rim and bare areas of the dish. It looks quite fussy and a little messy.
