Does anybody have and recomendations on poster printers. I am not satisfied with any of my local shops. And its impossible to judge quality over the internet.

I did some promo work for a band last weekend and they want to sell one image as a poster. I am not one to hand off a line of business to someone else, so I will be their supplier of the posters. Now I just need a printer. Id like them to be 24X36.

Short run only goes to 17 x 24.

Fullsize is way to expensive. $25 each!!! They would have to sell each one for $50 to make it worth their time!

I found a few that will print for about $3 each. I may just have to take the chance.

Fullsizeposters actually does some decent work.
They are a little limited with print media options, but they print on decent, though rather lightweight papers I believe.

If you've not been happy with any of your "local shops", (assuming you aren't talking about Big Boxes, and are referring to professional wide format printers with quality print machines), I doubt you'll be thrilled with the offset 4 color process of the 2 dollar poster people.
Of course..maybe you will. There is a big, big difference between a simple poster on cheap paper, and a quality large print photograph.

It sounds like you should either A: lower your standards, or B: stay out of the poster business until you know a little more about it.

Sounds like you are not on the same page. I am not looking to print 1 poster. $24 is not bad for a 1 off. I will be most likley order 200 minimum. So at $24 each.... I highly doubt they will sink $4800 in printing 200 posters. And even if they did, they would have to sell them at $40 each to make any money. I highly doubt anybody will buy a $40 poster.

No "big box" stuff here. Looking at local print shops.... They are great for invitations and cards, but loose their quality when they print big. There are printers that will do posters at about the same quality that you can buy at stores. The prices range is somewhere from $3 to $7 each for a 24 X 36. They will be 4 color offset posters, not big inkjet prints.

I was hoping that someone else has had some printed and could make a suggestion.

You're right. We were not on the same page. Sorry about that.
I wish I had a good answer for you but I don't, and that "200" number could be tough. For us inkjet printers, that's a lot. For the offset guys, it's not, and many will quote a significant setup charge.
I run some prepress proof material for some of my graphics art clients, that send them off to whatever high volume printer they are using.

I don't know if this link will help, but you may want to check it out.

You can submit your project for quotes.
If nothing else..some very good info about the printing industry overall.
