If you have to choose 3 lenses for your every day use. What are they and why?

  1. General purpose zoom?
  2. Marco lens?
  3. Telephoto zoom?

For APS-H or FF... 24-70L, 100L, 70-200 2.8 IS II.

Fast, sharp (the latter two moreso than the brick) and flexible.

1. 24-105; reasonably fast, wide enough for walking around town and a decent MFD

2. 100mm Macro (would be my 70-200 2.8 MkII if macro wasn't specified); true macro (1:1 mag), ridiculously sharp and great IQ

3. 100-400L: Can't reach most of my subjects without this one. Love the color and clarity out of it.

1. EF-S 17-55
2. EF-S 60 macro
3. EF 75-300 because it's cheap small and light and that's what I use for non-paid work.

I use a 1D which has a APS-H (1.25x crop).
16-35 2.8
100 2.8
70-200 2.8 IS (though a 135 2 and a 300 2.8 would be awesome)

Assuming these are the only lenses in your kit, and based on your specs:

1. 24-70L
2. Kenko Extension Tubes (add functionality to both lenses while saving on weight and cost)
3. 70-200 2.8L IS II

24-70/2.8
100/2.8 Macro
70-200/2.8 II

Though for my personal use I wouldn't necessarily choose those three types of lenses.
I don't do macro on a daily basis for instance, I'd rather have a fast prime like a 35/1.4.

Canon EF 24-105 f/4 IS L - because of the IS. Let's you shoot 1/10 and less handheld.
Zeiss Makro-Planar T* 100mm f/2 - Obviously.
Canon EF 70-200mm F/2.8 L iS II - Just nothing comes close to this. It's like having primes from 70 to 200 mm.
