Shot with a 40d and Rokkor X 50 1.4. I think i shot it at F/1.4 or 2.0

The second one i think i shot a F/4.0

The Vietnam Memorial has a lot of potential, and you have made a good attempt.

#1 I think the tourists diminish the power of the shot here. The wall, the monument and the flag, they have a poignancy about it. (Unfortunately I understand the difficulties of getting those tourists to understand the photographer's process ;-)a)

#2 The sneakers seem out of place here. WHat are you trying to say? Now if they were army boots....that would be a different matter. They seem a bit soft too

I agree with the poster above. The sneakers don't connect to the wall, and for my eye there is too much out of the depth of field. It took a moment to figure out what it was. I would try for much greater DOF next time.

Best time to photograph the Wall or most DC monuments is mid week in a non-touristy season.

I like the last one the best but it seems tilted a bit.

In the first one I would have removed the shoes (they have nothing to do with a war memorial) and focused on the flag.

@larry, i like your photo, but memorials are just not memorials without people. ;)
