Does anyone have any examples of this banding and pattern noise?

congrats on the new purchase! hope you find that the 5DII was worth the loss of the 7D value :)

would definately be nice to have both cameras to compliment each other though.

(ps - 'costed' is not a word ;) )

I think you mean "complement".

Just because you roll your eyes and haven't personally haven't seen this an uproar doesn't mean there hasn't been on this forum (and many others)and that these issues are non-existant.

I don't know about you, but the rolling-of-the-eyes definitely makes it appear as though you're discounting the issue.

P.S.
These issues (especially pattern noise in the shadow details at low ISO settings) happen SOOC. Google it. You don't have to listen to me to believe.

My response was to your comment which sounds to me like every 5DII owner will see tthis on every low ISO shot.

That is, unless he doesn't like pattern noise in shadow details at low ISO settings either. Which most of us don't.

I have no use for Googling it. I look at my 20k + images from my 5DII.

Why should I Google it ?

Yea I just took a few from my 5D2 that had very dark edges (ISO 100), cranked up the exposure & fill light. I saw noise but nothing that resembled any type of pattern. Not saying it can't happen, but when I try to make it happen and don't see it.......I'm not going to worry about it.

IDK by his SN of paintballkidz, I think the 7D is better suited for him. But if he can make the 5D2 work out for him, more power to him.

To answer the "7D or 5D MkII?" Question, my Answer was "both." Unfortunately...Im still waiting for them both.

I will upgrade to 5DII replacement probably a year after it's release (gotta wait for Canon to fix all the bugs). But I will probably hold on to my 7D even I upgrade as it's a very good camera and I am loving it more and more.

Because you clearly states that it wasn't an issue because no one has made a ruckus about it yet and I was reiterating that there has been many. Clearly if you do not see the fault in your own image inventory, then the issue is moot. Unfortunately that has not been my luck.

I do have high hopes and expectations of the 5D III though (including 100% VF coverage and a 9-point version of the 7D AF system).

Excuse me, but I said

I haven't heard any significant outcry over any of this from 5DII users which suggests that all of this rarely rears it's head.

+1 I don't see any pattern noise or banding at all with my high iso images on the 5dm2.

im willing to bet that if his main passion isn't fast action / wildlife then he wont.

but if his life passion isn't portraiture and landscape he will ;)

Truth be told the 5D2 and 7D are very even in terms of usefulness. Neither is better than the other...even if you consider one being FF. FF is great, but really only for Portraiture and Landscape photography...for anything but those it really is somewhat irrelevant.

The *MUCH* faster AF, faster burst, and more weather-resistant body is *far* more recommended for a lot of types of photography. Too many people love the 5D2 but really have no reason to other than it's a great camera for *them*.

That, and they don't mind deleting a bunch of OOF shots :)
