I am going to be shooting a live band in a local nightclub. This is not for money. I am doing it for a friend in the band.

I have shot live events outdoors in natural light with great results.

This nightclub is not huge but not tiny either. It might hold a couple of hundred people.

My question is what would be the best way of going about getting good shots of the band playing live? I have at my disposal a Canon 5D, 35 f/1.4L, 24-70 f/2.8L, 135 f/2L, 16-35f/2.8L. A 580exII if needed.

Am I better off shooting without flash?

I have not done this before.

Any tips or advice from someone who has first hand experience shooting a live band in a smaller nightclub would be most welcomed.

Many thanks.

***UPDATE*** I just found a gallery of photos showing the inside of the club here:

Take the 24-70mm and read this:

I've shot all my stuff with a 50mm 1.8 so far but wish I had a zoom I could use, much easyer to get the proper framing quickly. You might want the 135mm if you're shooting from the back.

Also - this is in the wrong section.

Thank you so much. I shot the show last night. I missed the info you posted. I got some great shots though.
