On most occasions when I choose to edit in CS5 from Lightroom 3, everything seems to go fine with Lightroom, CS5 fires up but no file ever gets opened. It doesn't happen all the time, just most of them.

I'm on a MB Pro 2.2ghz. with 4 gigs of RAM.

Anybody else seeing this? Anybody know the solution?

Thanks.

3.0 or 3.2? If not the latter I would suggest doing the update.

Sounds like you've got a broken association...

Somewhere back in the dim, dark past, I remember that there was a way to "remind" LR what your external editor of choice is but I'm blanking on the actual mechanics of it.

But it fires up CS5 all the time, it just doesn't create the file for editing some of the time.

Just out of curiosty...

When it fails to open the file, click on FILE -> RECENTLY OPENED and see if the one you wanted to open is at the top of the list. I wonder if it's doing an OPEN <> CLOSE thing on you (although I don't know why it would...)

Can you post a screen shot of your file associations from LR?

What format are you sending to PS? If I use PSD then I get occasional but rare failures but TIFF never fails.

Well, I've heard that some people who've dumped the 5D Classic in favor of them newfangled cameras that are out now are experiencing some personal problems, remorse, etc...but I don't know if it affects the software they are using:)!

Where would I find this? I'm on a Mac and don't know much about the operating system yet.

Just tried opening 5 different files and wouldn't you know, they all worked. I have to run out to do a presentation so I'll try again later and let you know.

Shift+Cmd+3 for entire screen, shift+Cmd+4 for a part of it (drag the crosshairs while keeping the mousebutton down) or a window (hover & press space, then click)

I know how to do a screen capture, I don't know where to find the file associations.

I'm on a PC, not a Mac... so this may not help...

But I always open as a TIFF and never have any problem. I can always save the file as a PSD later, if I wish.

Try changing to TIFF (in the export dialogue box in Lightroom).

Any progress, Geno?

Your problem sounds familiar, in that I believe I have seen something like that happen on occasion, but I don't remember it being repetitive in a way I could duplicate and that I could actually identify a cause. My default setting is to do it as a tiff @ 16 bits, so I haven't messed with psd.

Maybe the next time you see this, you might want to thoroughly check your settings. Also, make sure Photoshop isn't doing something "funny" with its view/Window settings and hiding your picture!

And, the next time this happens, check -- is a Ligthroom copy created (a tiff/psd) and appearing in your library? It should, although it may be "stacked" with the cr2.
