Hello There. I am beginning to learn Off Camera Flash setting using Pocketwizard II. It indicates that the fastest sync speed is 1/250th of a second. I am thinking this may apply only to apertures F8.0 and F5.6 (widest) with ISO 100. If I go wider than F5.6, I will be using faster shutterspeed than 1/250th. Without using ND filters (which I dont have), is there a way for me to shoot at F2.0 using this set up?

Thanks for your help.

Can your 5dmk2 even do 1/250? It is not the PW it is your camera which restricts the max sync speed.

So your options are:

1. Use eTTL cable or triggers
2. ND filters on the lens

No way. You may need PW TT5 for speed higher than 1/250.

I stand corrected...yes. the camera body is limiting the sync speed. so there is no way but for me to buy ND filters. I dont think I would upgrade to TT5's anytime soon.

ND filters are quite pricey especially for my lenses that have different thread sizes. ;)

The TT5 on camera does offer the ability to use the Pocket Wizard Hyper Sync capability with monolights. Here (external link) is a page on my tutorial site describing how I do it.

If you are using Speedlite(s) high speed sync works differently. The net result is higher shutter speed but dramatically reduced total light output from the speedlite(s)

I think 5D Mk2 have ISO 50 and you can also use polarizing filter instead of the ND.
Or you can "hack" High Speed sync (external link) if you have HSS flash.

The ControlTL system from Pocket Wizard does essentially the same thing the Hack does. The ControlTL approach offers the ability to adjust the pre-sync signal via a configuration capability to optimize the result.

Another thing to consider. This only works with monolights that have a tail. speedlites (canon) or speedlights (nikon) use a different approach to quenching the light output and will not work with Hyper Sync.
