Not likely. It merely demonstrates the strength of the CF standard. This marks, what, the 4th SD standard, while there's only one CF standard (which has been around even longer than the oldest SD specification) and that's getting faster and faster as memory speeds improve, but the cards are backward compatible with older devices (absent the separate issue of FAT limits). With SD, you can't take a new "standard" card and use it in a device that doesn't support the "new standard".

Interesting read. Those cards are getting pretty large. They can rate as high as 2Tb even though the largest now is 64GB

Exactly why. Canon and nikon knew what was coming. The d7000 is rumored to have 2 SD card slots.

think video. an HD video that runs as long as two batteries in a grip is going to be dozens of gigs.(20 minutes = ~4gigs)

also consider: video studios need cheap and fast ways to move raw footage around. high speed SD cards in the T size 'solve' that issue nicely.

you can always run a battery cable to an external power source

i think the bigger problem is overheating

+1 on this, as said it's unlikely that the new SD cards will fit into currant cameras using SDHC or SDXC, or current card readers, another marketing con.
Whats wrong with the CF card anyways?

no thats not why, because 60d will not support the extra speed.

Whatever you do, don't pay the early adopter premium and buy this card thinking it will give you speed in your current camera. None of the current, nor just announced cameras, support the speed.

The card is for FUTURE cameras.
