This marks, what, the 4th SD standard, while there's only one CF standard (which has been around even longer than the oldest SD specification) and that's getting faster and faster as memory speeds improve, but the cards are backward compatible with older devices (absent the separate issue of FAT limits). With SD, you can't take a new "standard" card and use it in a device that doesn't support the "new standard". Jon
