Having only had the camera (S95) for a few days I have not really had a chance to see its capabilities, but from what I have seen on this thread I am convinced I made the right choice of pocket compact.

Thanks for the welcome guys, been a lurker for a few years but now feeling the need to post. ;-)a

I just ordered one as a Christmas gift for my wife--she isn't too fond of taking my 50D around town.

I had been considering a LX5 but I got a chance to play with one the other day and the controls bugged me for some reason. I am thinking the s95 might be the way to go. Curious if to hear if other folks were trying to choose between the two...

My main goal is to have a camera that shoots RAW that I will take with me when lugging my DSLR is impractical.

Went back and forth between the LX5 and S95 for the same reasons you state above. Ended up ordering the S95 since it seems to get a bit more of a nod in the reviews and is more compact. Mine should arrive today.

I was in the same boat. They are both really good camera's but I chose the S95 because of the following:

- Canon jpeg compression is better = RAW is good on both.
- Did not like the LX5 lens cap.
- Wanted portable and let's face it, the S95 is more portable. The LX5 is really not that pocketable.
- Found the menu's and controls of the S95 much better than the LX5 and more DSLR like.

I was really torn between these 2 camera's but have no regrets getting the S95.

Hi,

I've been a Canon fan since the first Ixus. I moved to digital very early as I take snapshots and not composed pictures. I bought an 860is over a year ago and have been very happy with the outcome as I used it mostly indoors and at parties. Now I took some scenery shots and found they look as though I am using a vaseline filter and a softener on the right side. I need to post process every single shot I have taken over the last 2 months. Example:

I almost went out today to buy an S95 after reading about it on a web page, but held back to get confirmation that I am not making the same mistake twice.

Does anyone have the 860 to compare to the S95?
Would the S95 do a better job?

I looked around to find a more appropriate thread to ask this, but did not find one, so I hope it's ok to do so here.

Thanks

AndySA

I am not sure if this works right with the inserting of the image. I can barely use my S95....lol, and now learn how to upload here also? Whewhh! Babes is in wonderland for sure.
Anyway......I have seen some very beautiful photos here.....maybe one day mine will be just as good.

Oh man....sorry I sure blew this page up....omg........lol.
Anyway, the shot above was taken tonight. Hand held HDR, no tripod at work allowed. Well no camera either....but when the cat is away the mice will come out and.....yep, take photos.
Its behind a deli counter of a grocery store. My part time job.....
