60D weather sealing vs 50D ?

I don't think the 50D is 'known' for its weather sealing and the only thing I have ever seen written was that it has "improved weather sealing" vs the 40D.

And before the responses of "reasons not to get the 60D if you have a 50D" flood in, don't worry, I'm just curious about the weather sealing is all...
 ;)

Google search for "60D weather sealing" responded all over the map so to speak. Bob Atkins says:

"The weathersealing is somewhere between that of the T2i and the EOS 7D. It’s not super weather sealed, and it’s not designed to be used in heavy rain, but it shouldn’t quit if it sees a little drizzle!"

if you want a weather sealed camera get a 1d.

also, only L lenses are weather sealed, so for your lens collection i really wouldn't worry because those wouldn't handle rain any better than a weather-resistant body (which the xxd series kinda sorta are but not really).

Specs on the Canon UK website list the 50D and 60D as having the same degree of weather sealing, that is "Memory card and battery door only".

Oh alright, check out the red and green diagram on this page...

I guess that means the buttons are sealed too? Not sure what the difference between red and green is... openings vs seals between panels maybe. Don't know about the 50D.

My understanding was that the 60D had less weather sealing than the 50D but I am not sure

The 50D never had all the seals that are shown in these diagrams. There seems to be conflicting information out there.

The 50D was supposed to be slightly better than the 40D and now 60D seems to have more than 50D.

ok, in my original post here - I said a google search regarding weather sealing of 50D vs 60D is 'all over the map' and it must be true because almost every reply in this thread is 'all over the map'.

Looking for official statements from Canon* remains the prize of our quest...

* what degree is the 50D weathersealed and how does the 60D compare?

To be honest does it really matter what the diagrams is stats say? (Ok maybe it does) I personally am more interested to hear what people have to say on a personal level via experience. For example:

Canon EOS 350D - Rather questionable weather sealing no? I had mine out in a ridiculous rain storm. I must have been the only one in at the motor show with my camera still out (I have a 'healthy disrespect for my equipment'). It was more than dripping wet, eventually I went and hid because I felt I was too wet. No problems with the 350D then or now.

(Slightly irrelevant i realise but I heard about a Nikon user shooting a model on a beach with a D700 when a wave completely washed him out, he didn't even stop to check the equipment, all was fine)

Any similar stories regarding these cameras?

Do the red and green sections indicate seals?
