Budget is not an issue. I like shooting of all sorts, from scenic to portrait, sports. More like a hobby than professional. I was about to buy a 50D but they where discontinued. I checked out the specs for both they are nearly the same. 7D tops 60D obviously, but do you guys find any difference from SD vs Compact flash? personally the adjustable LCD doesnt really appeal to me. Does being a newer model makes it better or may have done any improvement. Is 60D your poormans 7D? Is magnesium sturdier than polycarbonate on aluminum chassis? Since you ask me what kind of pictures do i shoot, will it make a big difference or varies from one to another? Thank you for everyone's helpful advice!

Can you wait a month to make your purchase? The 7D is a great camera, and the 60D will prove to be just as good a camera in its price tier, I think either would be great for what you want to shoot. What are you using now? and do you mind smaller cameras (ie. like the 550D)?

If money isn't a factor then the 7D is the easy choice.

The unholy trinity:
EF 70-200mm F4 \ & Tamron-F 2X TC
EFS 17-55mm f/2.8
EFS 10-22mm

The only reason you would get the 60D is if budget "is" a concern.

You could prbably spend 20 minutes reading the 60d threads that already exist to gather the current consensus for a camera no one has used yet. I'll summarize: the 60d is less a replacement for the 50d and more a "super rebel". It has incorporated no technology (at least per canon's released info) in the AF, processing, of sensor oveer the 7d - no significant technological advances at all. SD cards are slower than CF cards, but cheaper and more plentiful.

The 60d is a different category than the 7d, and choosing between them requires an understanding of what you are specifically looking for in a camera body. If you want a little smaller, cheaper, and lighter the 60d is your camera. If you want faster, more capable, and feature packed and don't mind the extra cost then the 7d is your camera

I own a 450D, but there is always something missing when I'm using it. I can't wait another month because I will give my 450D to my brother as a gift since he was asking for it so much. I want to be more in depth with photography thats why I want a better one. Thank you very much for all your expert advise.

Maybe consider the 550D then, it is much better at ISO, has movie mode, etc. If you aren't sure what exactly you were missing on the 450D, I am not sure a 60D or 7D will "discover" that missing link for you.

I know this is out of the topic. But since they are gonna discontinue 50D, do you guys think its still bankable to buy one? I was about to buy 50D in the first place.

If money is no object, then why not buy the 7d? It is, from all the reviews, a better camera. It is slightly bigger than the 60d, so if size were an issue, that might be something to consider. Otherwise, I'd surely get the 7d, assuming that you have money left over to invest in a good quality lens or two.

Whatever body you decide to go with, the lens choice will be just as important.
Maybe a 70-200 Sigma or Canon for portraits and/or sports. I can't recommend the Tamron version because of it's slower focusing system. A wide angle tele lens would also round out a nice starter kit so to speak.
Now back to the bodies. If you go with a 7d at new prices why not go with a used 1D MIII. The reason I suggest the 1D is if you shoot low light sports you can shoot a full 10 fps and the 7d slows down to around 5-6 fps in low light from what i've read on the foums.
Welcome to the forums and don't forget the duck after you make your decision.

yes. The 50d is probably the best value on the market right now - the only thing the 60d has over it is the video. Everything else goes to the 50d. The 50d is going to also be a big improvement over your 450d.

As an aside DSLR video takes a lot more effort, and isn't really for casual shooting. To really get the results you see from the pros requires lots of additional expensive hardware
