Cattle Penning...

My new favorite thing to shoot this summer is cattle penning... C&C welcome!

I'm glad to see you shoot this. My wife used to compete in team penning. You should have a lot of fun.

You'll need to get much tighter to have your images move beyond snapshot quality. Ideally, you could capture the expressions of at least two of the faces involved--The horse, the steer and/or the rider. Capturing the full bodies of those three is not essential. In fact, if you get all three bodies in their entirety, you are likely too loose in your framing of the shot.

If your event is like team penning here, the horse and rider start at the opposite side of the ring from the cattle. The initial gallop toward the herd is another action packed shot. Shoot a bunch and see what shots you like. Post more!

Team Penning is very similar to bowling and bank fishing in that all it is is an excuse to drink beer
