Hi everyone,

Any recommendations for an eye piece thingy? Not even sure what to call it or if it even exists.

I have a 50D and I'd like to shoot more manual focus. Does an eye piece exist that will magnify (make subject easier to see) through the viewfinder?

Thanks,

Canon makes the EP-EX15 I which is an extender and it does just that, but it also makes the viewfinder smaller. They are cheap, you should check one out.

i don't know of any regular eyepiece replacement that actually magnifies the view. there are those right angle finders that magnify (hoodman, canon angle finder C).

you may want to think about changing your focus screen if you do a lot of MF.

Many moons ago, Canon made an "Eyepiece Magnifier S" with a couple of adapters for the different bodies at the time but probably long since vanished.
As suggested above, a new focus screen would be a more normal option nowadays....a split prism with matte to match up with the apertures of your intended lenses.

I have been using one of these or similar magnifying eyepieces, from KPS & Tenpa, with 20D,50D, 5D & now 7D. They offer magnifications of 1.3x to 1.36x & help with manual focussing. They also get your nose a little further from the LCD screen reducing the amount (not eliminating) of nose smearing.

Hope this helps.
