These type of photos as "lens tests" are basically meaningless. Almost any lens, even the cheapest no-name zoom, would give you almost identical images.

I guess you feel some sort of dopamine boost by having been able to recover and display the deleted files, congratulations.

I guess you feel some sort of dopamine boost by crapping in other peoples threads?

You are more than welcome to post your own test shots from a 70-300L any time you want to show us how a correct "test shot" should be conducted. He's the first person in the world to post actual shots from this new lens, and that did not happen without time and effort on his part.

Here is a 100% crop from one of his shots, taken wide open at 300mm and it looks sharp to me. Lots of noise, obviously but the lens is delivering.

100% crops please!

You can download the original shots from my flickr my friend :D

Maybe you had no other choice than to shoot a flatscreen TV but it's hard to gauge sharpness that way. :D

I know they arent the best shots Julian but if you look at exif data i didnt have much time to shoot with it until the CF card was asked to be deleted. There are also different kind of shots in my flickr. Those posted here arent the only ones :)

themadman wrote in post #10854823 (external link)
Are those fstops when it first hits the number? It does not hit 5.6 until 300mm?

Here is my post from the other thread:

All here is my report:

I'm not allowed to put my card in the camera with the lens because it's a pre-production version. I used it on a 1DIV and 7D.

Max aperture of 4 stays constant at 70-100
101-135 is 4.5
136-200 is 5.0
and 201-300 is 5.6.

Hey you almost got a full shot of Kevin Craig, one of Canon's business reps. I don't think anybody on POTN has a picture of him yet. ;)

Nice job, Omar. Now put your hands behind your back. You're under arrest. ;)

I don't know why so many people are slamming this lens. It looks very sweet to me. I want one.

This lens is variable aperture? I like the range- a lot- but it's not going to get my money. Looks plenty sharp too.

If you must know...

Don't listen to all the haters. You didnt have to take the time you did to recover and post these. Superb job in giving us a sneak peek. The wide open shot at 300mm looks very promising. What was the name of the recovery program you used? I still cant find a good one.

Thanks for posting these images Omar. People slam this lens bcoz' it's variable aperture like the 100-400. People haven't even used it yet and make judgements based on specs and looks. Imo, I think these look great even under the lighting conditions you had. Thanks for going through all that hard work to recover the images. It was totally worth the effort. :)

I'm surprised at some of the responses you received for all your efforts. No gratitude at all.:rolleyes:

He was curious about how well the this new lens would perform.

You were curious as well, or you would have skipped over this thread.

He spent considerable effort to help us with our curiosity.

If you don't appreciate it, fine.

But there's no need to be rude towards him.

You can tell a lot by a person's screen name.

NOOGLE88 probably got a lot of noogies in his head as a kid. He's probably some nerd sitting behind his computer who never leaves the house except when his wife tells him to go to the store and pick up some milk.

Thankfully, this forum is mostly free of such trash.

and a simple search of NOODLE88 will show he's never started a thread, never posted a pic, only criticizes.
