I must ask about your technique here... Very wide angle, very wide aperture... and yet despite a nearly infinite DOF these appear to be closeups!? How close was the bird in photo #1? Impressive shots, and I'd love to know more about how you took them. Kenn I was very close to the bird and set the focus to the hyperfocal distance of about 4.5ft, I then stood behind the hay bale and shot when the bird was about 6ft away from me.

This is another example of differences between the States and Europe, I was wondering how long it would be for one of our colonial friends to point out that it was a hawk and not a 'buzzard'.

To you guys over the pond, a buzzard is a type of vulture I believe, over here a buzzard will be a species of the genus Buteo, which yes, you guys call hawks over there. There is also the honey buzzard (Pernis apivorus) but that is not a true buzzard. Over here Buteo species are not referred to as hawks (apart from non european species where we use your names for your birds), we reserve 'hawk' for species such as the sparrowhawk and goshawk (genus Accipiter). So, Buteo buteo, the common buzzard, is not a hawk. At least not to Europeans. PS. Great shots Malla. Thanks! Great information, I had no idea about. Yes, buzzards are commonly referred to describing a vulture. (BTW: The proper name for us is "Revolutionists"!)
