purposely soft focus - critique on composition, print tone, effective message, etc.

this is a real scene shot with a long lens 180mm f/2.8 which is why it looks compressed. it also approaches non-literal which is where the attraction is for me.

Not sure what its supposed to be but it look like a random test shot. Not something you would put on your wall.

Sorry Joe, no message for me on this one, and I really did try to find a hidden one....the purposeful softness adds nothing to the content for me, if it were tack sharp it would be the same.sorry.
Too many verticals leading to nowhere...

its a decentralized composition, sure... but it is barely a composition. its essentially a 2/3 box. you liked what you saw, but what you were thinking or feeling isn't conveyed to the outside viewer. it's not quite blurred enough to be truly de-focused, and the lines aren't conveying a shape (even abstractly). hell, the lines are just barely off vertical, which is actually quite distracting.

this is a common thing to happen for photographers. what you learn over time is to convey what your thought process is to the viewer that is specifically not you.

Thanks ... all comments have been useful ...

This is an indoor exhibit entrance at a major metropolitan museum. The 180mm compresses the sense of depth in the scene. Good call on the tilted vertical. I am attracted to the rectangle shapes, various textures and colors, and their relationship to the frame. Not what most photographers look for in an image.

As it stands I don't like it - but cropped right below the leaves on the top and above the mat frame on the bottom and blur the 'railing' using a square crop - I really like it.

I ran it through adobe's kuler and the color palette is awesome - reminds me of the Zorn palette colors.

Interesting ...

I use this technique of different color palettes for background and subject when printing digital images. Thanks for the cropping suggestions.
