Hi everyone,

i did a newborn shoot not to long ago for the first time. there are a ton of things that i would do differently.. most of all is not forget my softbox... I was lucky that i had left a shoot through umbrella in my car that day! I realize that i have a ton to learn about posing newborns.. in fact i didn't even touch the kid. I was too afraid, i had his mom and dad do all the dirty work.Ha! Oh, i def need to get rid of the diaper next time i shoot a newborn...

I give a lot of credit to all children photog's, it's hard work! Anyway, enough of my babble.. here are some photo's. C&C appreciated!

Hello Michael! I think you did very well on several. The 1st 4 whith babe in bunny- not my favorites. LOVE the finger in hand and the lighting -natural and superb. I also LOVE the one of then newborn with eyes wide open trying to push up on the blanket. I am loving color and not so much black and white at this age- really depends on what is wanted by parents. Did you have newborn with sunlight from window? what is your set up!I will need to learn from you because I have one coming up!

Thanks crazy! I had the baby positioned with the window opposite of me. I used a 580 EXII with a shoot through umbrella for some fill light so it wouldn't have too much of a shadow. the low key ones at the bottom were just flash through a white umbrella

Thanks for your feedback, very much appreciated. Good luck on your shoot

Very nice indeed. I need to take a flash course-use mine on camera but so more can be achieved as you are doing. I think what makes newborn photos special is the skin tones. The tone is unique and you get a sense of how fragile they are. When you work with these natural tones and add similiar but different tones to the backround-foreground- this is what composition (for me) is all about.
I happen to love the sheepskin and your blanket choice works with the tones- not taking over the scene.

I don't really like the grid one as much, but the finger one after it and the black and white ones are beautiful =]
