Does it makes sense to get a body and lens "checked up" on?

Hey guys,

I was just curious, I actually pass the NJ Canon facility on my way to class all the time, and I was wondering would it be worth it to just drop in and ask nothing more than a check up on the life of my 40D's body? Or the same for lenses? Or do you think doing something like that would be a waste of time?

There's nothing wrong with my equipment sans perhaps a bit of dirt on my sensor and maybe some dust in my lens from what I can tell but I wonder if it wouldn't hurt to get something like this done? Or if it's even possible to ask for something like that when you don't suspect an immediate problem with your equipment.

Curious to get opinions on it, or if it's not worth the hassle/a waste of money if they want to charge me just to look.

If there's nothing wrong then there's no need.
Also it would probably mean that you'd be without your camera for a period of time.
Enough people complain that Canon take too long with camera repairs as it is without someone adding to that delay because of a whim.
Why waste a Cannon tech's time and cost yourself some dollars for no reason.
Generally, just looking at a shutter won't tell you anything.
Shutters will fail at anytime from their first actuation onwards.

I'd rather not have someone poking around in the camera body unnecessarily. If they lube up parts on the inside or something they risk getting grease on the sensor perhaps. (I'm not sure if there is any truth to that, just an assumption). If you take it in for a $50 cleaning hopefully they would be able to tell if something doesn't look right.

Don't fix what ain't broke.
