We went to the Battle of Britain Airshow at the Imperial War Museum, Duxford last weekend as it is the 70th anniversary of the battle.

I borrowed a friend's 100-400 to mount on my 450D. Sadly the light was pretty dreadful with overcast skies which didn't help matters.

Anyway, here's some of my shots from the day:

Given the conditions, these are perfect! Nice job of letting the sky go and nailing the exposure on the actual subject(s)!

Well Done!

A slightly frustrating day tracking very quick targets in poorish light on a 450D, got an overall keeper rate of about 1 in 4 I guess, but useful nonetheless. What do you think?

Thanks Jay! I applied +1 EV exposure compensation at the time of capture, but that wasn't really enough so most of these have had another +0.5 or so in Raw conversion.

The Spittie looks great shot this way. Like it's hand drawn on a poster or something. Brilliant...

The full gaggle of 16 must have been soul stirring to see and hear!

It was quite moving indeed. They lined up on the grass and took off in pairs one after another, the sound of all those Merlins [and 1 Griffon!] made the hairs on the back of your neck stand on end.

Any shots of lift off(s)?

Sadly not, it was one of those occasions where I was too busy enjoying the spectacle to shoot it.

I got this one of some of them taxiing to the runway: http://farm5.static.flickr.com …67000526_1d48cac7dc_o.jpg (external link)

Really nice shots. Duxford can be a bugger with lighting, always seems to be overcast when I go there :-)

Thanks guys. Fortunately my wife did take some video footage on our P&S too, but I didn't get any stills on the DSLR.
