Pham and Ryan

Thanks a ton. One of the best threads we have had on POTN. If you guys dont right click this your nuts. I see you take the plm out a lot. are you guys using a vagabond for portable power. If so, how many pops are you getting with it ?? guess im gonna have to invest in one. Nice work and great tutorial for everyone here. 2 heads are always better than one, but with you guys its like a 4:1 ratio with ryans graphic design andphotoshop skills.......great team. I would find a way to stay together and do commercial work if possible. Thanks for the tutorial, invaluable info here:cool:

Thanks everyone.

We do shoot with vagabonds and together combined I think we have 4 total. 3 of C.T.'s and 1 of mine. So we can power football field lights almost

But really, thanks for all the kind comments yall.

Since we're on the track of asking you guys questions, I hope you don't mind me asking you a somewhat newb question.

In the shot below, what determines whether you'd want your lighting to be reflected or straight through? I'm starting to learn off camera flash and would greatly appreciate any advice you can give me. Is one intended to be the main fill light while the other is set to light up a certain part of the person?

Shooting through will spill light everywhere in the scene. At your subject and behind your umbrella. Of course stronger to where ever the head of your flash/strobe is.

Reflecting light will help restrict most of it to where you point the reflective side of the modifier.

the full power pops from a Vagabond with AB1600's are about 300-500 depending on the quality of your charge..

Thanks Ryan! So why did you choose to set up 3 shoot throughs in that picture if it spills light everywhere?

There are two shoot throughs, one PLM (silver with diffused sock), and a softbox to illuminate the background wall. Shooting through also provides softer light then reflecting an umbrella. Also shooting through allows you to move the light source closer to your subject while keeping it soft.
