Is it possible to get a compact camera that produces great images? What do you recommend for me?

IMO PowerShot S95 looks like the best at $399

Canon PowerShot S90/S95 & Panasonic LX3/LX5 come to mind (I have an LX3 for sale if you're interested). The Sigma DP-series are below that level time and again at Amazon but be warned, they're fixed focal length. Right now they've got the DP1s for $299.00 (35mm equiv of 28mm).

Thanks guys, I have been looking at all mentioned as well as the G11. I read an article sometime back that the new G11 is not living up to the past G series image quality. S95 is the one I keep going back to at the moment.

Canon G10 if you can find one. It's sick.

Can you give a link to this article?

here's a link I'll give Canon PowerShot G11 Review (external link)

from the review....Image Quality
We had little in the way of complaints about the G11 - from an image quality point of view it's one of the most consistently good compacts we've tested

However, there's nothing to match the G11's all-round capability - its strengths are its balance between size, flexibility and image quality.

The G11 combines some of the best compact camera image quality with excellent levels of manual control, an optical viewfinder, flip-out screen, raw capability, superb battery life, flexible lens range and the ability to mount dedicated flashguns

I have a G9 and G11, and between the two I prefer my G11. I have taken some great shots with my G9, but I'm disappointed when I have to move to ISO 100 or 200. Anything about those are worse. The G11 lets me get "good" shots up to ISO 800, something I don't try anymore with my G9.

If you find the G11 to "large" for you, then the S90 would be a better choice.

Dennis

Go for the S95. You won't regret it one bit.

To the OP - are you just concerned with IQ? Or are there any "must haves" on your list?
