Tips for Composite Shots

I am trying to break into commercial photography with the help of a friend who works at a local advertising agency, he says he can get me the lower budget jobs when they typically use stock photography in lieu of paying $10,000+ for high end photogs.

I am hoping to bounce some ideas off of people.

I'll have 7 speedlites (3 canon 4 yongnuo) and stands and various modifiers.
I'm going to stage a kids birthday party, 6-8 kids, a couple adults, a clown, a peanut vendor, some balloons . . . classic backyard birthday.

I want to get a handful of shots with concentrated lighting focusing on 1 or 2 subjects at once, then I want to create a composite with the best of all shots with exaggerated lighting and PP for a very animated final result. This is the first of a few sets like this I want to do to build a commercial portfolio.

Any thoughts, suggestions, tips? Know anyone that has any examples like this sort of thing I can study?

Maybe post this in the business of photography section. You might get a better response there.

I'd asked before and was suggested here . . . it's kind of a weird topic. Ill try there if no one sees fit to move this thread first.

Take a look at http://www.saddingtonbaynes.com/ (external link).

One of the best studios that do this type of work. They have a breakdown section too, which shows some work-in-progress shots.

Thanks! This really helps!

edit: Spent a while going through many of their campaigns and they're amazing. Exactly what I was looking for.
