While I was at Myrtle Beach last weekend for vacation I took some time to stop by the local state park. It was a really nice area with an excellent fishing pier and a quiet beach. It was definitely worth the trip and I recommend this park to anyone visiting the Myrtle Beach are. C&C is always welcomed and encouraged

The yellow umbrella works well with the deep blue sky.

Nice shots, I was there this past weekend also! I have a few shots to process yet, but yours are great.

Side note: We actually always stay at Springmaid Beach Resort, you can see it in your last shot...

Thanks for the comments!

bsp, I look forward to seeing some of your shots. I was only there for 4 days so I only got to see a very small part of the area. Is the Springmaid reasonably priced? I stayed at a condo not far from Murrells Inlet and it seemed like it took forever to go anywhere. I am already starting to look for a more centralized place to stay on my next trip.

I unloaded my photos last night and began to work on them, I'll post them up soon. Murrells Inlet is a long way off from a lot of things, so I bet it did feel like it took forever to go places. Springmaid is very reasonable I think, averages about $100 - $120 a night tax included. They have a lot of things on the grounds too, since it is a resort and not just a hotel. Mini-golf, restaurant, 3 pools & 2 lazy rivers, and they have their own pier that includes a tackle shop / gift shop along with a medium sized snack shop. The beach is always clean and the crowd is usually minimal since it is next to the state park but technically before "the strip" begins...

Next time you go down give them a look, I don't think you'd be disappointed!

Very nice shots, especially the first.

We were there last summer, 2009, and had an absolutely fabulous time. We even saw a shark off one of the fishing piers......and hundreds of jellyfish. If it weren't a 12 hour drive, we would go back in a heartbeat.

Straightening...lol. Every time I straighten the horizon, I hang the picture crooked.

Just break the drive up, 6 hours to Gatlinburg (TN) for a night or two then 6 more to the beach! Mountains and the beach, good photographic combo!

Completely understood, but we also have so many other places we want to see in the future. Been to Gatlinburg, too, loved it.

As for a place to stay, I would recommend a condo up in North Myrtle Beach at the Barefoot Resort. We paid 1200 for 10 days. So, it's about the same $120/nt. And, there was plenty to do/see within a 10 minute drive up there. We got down to Murrels, etc, but that did take a long time because we took the main drag through everything intentionally just to see it all.

That's really reasonable considering everything they have, and the location sounds awesome. I'll look into that for next year, it would be nice to have the quiet beach but still be so close to "the strip" and everything on that end of the beach.

Thanks for the comment! That would have been interesting to see a shark, did you happen to grab any pictures of it?

LOL...nope. We were out on the pier, I had my camera (taking pictures of something else), and the kids come up and say, "Hey, Dad, did you see that shark? It was soooooo cool. This guy tried to catch it and everyone was watching. It was sooooo cool."

I was like, "Where the hell was I?"

Shots like this were on the wrong side of Apache Pier... :(

And, sorry, but I can't resist one of my faves of my daughter the first evening we got there. None of the kids had ever seen the ocean..

I may look through your flickr. Feel free to look through mine. Myrtle Beach shots are in the Summer Fun and Kids/Family sets.

I have a picture of a shark off one of the piers buried from years past, the trick is to stay near the cleaning tubs that the guys clean their fish on...blood in the water will always draw the sharks in!

Torque, did you actually visit the State Park or just hit the beach in front of it? I have never been in the actual State Park...

I've been to Myrtle Beach and haven't had the chance to shoot the pier. Thanks for sharing!

bsp - I only had a couple hours to spend at the park, so I rode through the state park and rode through the campground they had there. It was a nice very nice park but from what I saw the pier, beach and campground were the main parts. Everything else was wooded so I didn't explore too much.
