Looking for a tripod or potential lateral arm add-on (I have a gitzo 2540 tripod) for food photography. Basically I want to be able to shoot directly down at food. The tripod should be able to support a 5D with a 24-70L. Can you guys let me know what good options I have and also what are the most compact/lightest option? I am flexible money wise. Thanks!

I can't speak for something especially lightweight or compact, but for a lateral-position and reversible center column, the Manfrotto 055XPROB is an extremely sturdy set of legs at a very reasonable price.

No idea what sort of unique conditions or features are required for food photography, either.

Aww... and here I was hoping you were trading your tripod for perishable goods :)
