Don't think it's a "shop" job... This poster has been reported on several sites and blogs.

The funny thing is, the gov.au anti terrorist ads they ran on TV a while back featured a collage of Polariod snaps of suspicious things in/around airports, with the concept being if you see something suspicious you should take a photo of it.

NO, they are not going crazy. I wish that were the case. Unfortunately, this is all coordinated and part of an agenda. Govt workers and citizenry are being specifically conditioned to associate "unauthorized" photographers with terrorists. This has been going on for almost a decade now.

The reason for this conditioning and association with photography and terrorism has NOTHING to do with terrorism (whatever that is). The reason for this is about free citizen media.

The greatest threat to a corrupt and tyrannical government is a free citizen media. The govt only wants official media and the ability to regulate all information sources. In the future, there will be no unregulated genuinely free journalism. There will only be "official" journalism with press passes and credentials approved by govt officials.

This is not about terrorism DO NOT FALL FOR THAT. This is an attack against free citizen media. It's not possible to attack free speech directly because then people would rebel. SO instead, the attack on free citizen media is framed as a fight against "terrorism."

That's very Orwellian, Gentleman Villain. I hope you're wrong, but I don't think you are.

John

it shows with a guy with a camera and frames the act as suspicious

then encourages the reader to "report" the incident

If this poster is real, then it is very serious propaganda designed to condition the population to associate free citizen media as a threat to security.

Well for my recent trips through TSA security, I haven't had an issue with photo equipment. They didn't really pay much attention to my gear or to the gear I had out, they were more worried with my workout clothes bag and went through that :rolleyes:

I have a slightly different take on this. I think the paranoia is about suspicious activity in and near sensitive areas, whether that be loitering, looking nervous, taking photos, leaving a bag unattended and so on. And yes, the population is conditioned to react to this suspicion and often unfounded. It is a sign of the times. Gentleman Villain is correct, it is going to get worse not better for those who wish to photograph legally in areas now considered sensitive. If someone suspects you are 'caseing the joint' so to speak, the authorities have to check it out because to not check it out and have sometning happen is unacceptable in today's paranoid climate. Be prepared to be challenged, cooperate with competent authority and you can probably get your photos. Resist and antagonize, suffer the consequences. You will probably prevail in both cases, but it is your choice.
Cheers,
John

Considering that I couldn't find any reference to the posters that didn't link back to Miller's blog and considering the source, I'm going to take this one with a grain of salt until it's verified by someone actually seeing it in an airport.
