The grid requires about as much material and more time on a sewing machine, so the price kinda makes sense.

Didn't realize that. Makes the EZ-pro version look like a good deal. What's difference, does the fotodiox have better construction?

Your not going to fill a 60" octagon very well with a 580. Try looking at a Qbox.

Its more of a "It depends" I agree 100% with you if you are going to try to set it 10 feet from the subject and try to match some ambient.

I have the 50' Apallo and use it with a 540 a lot. But for close up head shots where I want very soft light and still be able to shoot at 2.8.

I haven't handled a fotodiox branded box to compare, but the EZPro has an umbrella-style mechanism to open and close it so it is really easy to set up and take down.

I just got one of these 60" softboxes today.

First of all... wow that's big. Ok, now that I got that out of the way....

This one does not have the umbrella style setup. This one has the traditional softbox construction... of course this is actually an octabox so there are more spokes than a standard softbox.

It didn't seem to hard to setup for the first time. I've only done a couple test shots with it, we'll see how it goes in actual use.

I've got mine setup with an Alienbee B800 on the 13' heavy duty stand. It all feels pretty stable and good to go.
