Many photographers here earn their living through photography - this question is not likely to be something you can answer - of course you'd charge :)

I have a day job, and play photographer on the weekend. I've tended to keep the two separate, although most people I work with know I shoot on the side, it's not a secret. Typically, when people in the office ask for shoots, I make agreeable noises and wait to see if they follow through - they never have.

Now, I've got a workmate wanting a shoot - "just headshots" - but they will be on location that will involve travel. Usage will be for online purposes, so likely digital use only. We've booked a date, and this looks to be much more likely than the others that never started communication.

I'm trying to decide on my stance to charge for this one ... being a workmate in the day job, I'm tempted to do this one for expenses and time only - then let her buy the prints / digital files on her own. On the other hand, I wonder if I should come up with a single package price to cover travel, time and say, 6 files of her choosing, and considering it done.

Thoughts? I'm a little wary to mix businesses ...

I dont see the problem with it being someone you work with...when you are first starting your customer base is going to be family , friends, workmates and friends of friends...then as word travels the base grows to include clients you dont know or have any connection to...
I say 1 hour $100 and give them a few pics on a disk optimized for web use..if they want more thay can hit you up for full res images or prints.
