I need to get a new CF card and was wondering what you guys think about them - I have 4g Ultra II and shoot with my 40D - I was wondering about the difference in the Ultra and Extreme - I shoot alot of birds and use fast burst at 6/fps - do you have any suggestions?? I think I want to get a 8g or 16 g card? I always shoot in Raw and will probably change bodies in the next month or so to a 7d or Mark IV

Then get the Extreme. I find that 8 GB is a reasonable size in terms of number of frames/card for cameras that are between 12 and 25 MP (shooting RAW). I have 32 GB Extremes in my 5D2 and 7D ATM and it takes forever for Downloader Pro to sort through the already-downloaded shots so I only need to worry about the new ones.

Check out the Transcend cards ( and others ) that newegg sells . You can get the 16GB 400x Transcend for $60 and the 32GB for around $115

I use the Transcent 64G 400X cards in my 7D and have been getting between 20 to 26 RAWS before the camera slows down in bursts. And for $195 (at NewEgg.com) they give you lots of space to take photos and take advantage of video capacity of the new cameras as well. I filled 3.5 cards while on holidays last month.

I have a pair of 16 GB Transcend 400x CF cards. So far, they have worked great when shooting softball/ baseball and volleyball tournaments.

Card speed has virtually zero bearing on how long it takes to fill the buffer. I get 20 raws with a 3 MB/s card and 20 raws with my 60 MB/s card. The only difference between them is how quickly the buffer empties (between 11 and 146 seconds).
