First post here, so go easy on me
I've had a Rebel XS/1000D with the 18-55 and 75-300 lens kit for a little over a year. This was my first foray into a dSLR, though I shot with a Minolta X-700 for quite a few years prior to diving into a dSLR, and also and took photography in high school many moons ago.
What I've learned in the last year..... The body is OK, but lacks features I want, the 75-300 lens is soft, and the 18-55 kit lens is adequate. My wife has given me her partial blessing to start doing what I should have done in the first place, and buy better gear.
I'm posting in the lens forum as I'm planning on upgrading the lenses first, and then the body, unless I get serious advice otherwise.
My first lens I'd like to buy/replace is a telephoto, and I'm looking at the 70-200L 2.8 IS. Is it worth it for me to buy the mkII, or will the mkI be sufficient.
My shooting is going to be more of the kids in the park, trips to the zoo, though I love aviation, so that's also a priority. I know with the 1.4 TC I can probably get better reach out of the 70-200, and it's a better walkaround lens than something like the 100-400L push/pull.
I will eventually be looking at something like the 7D, though I haven't ruled out the 60D either. The AF points and frame rate of the 7D attract me, while the price point of the 60D attract me (though i worry about regretting not spending the money in the first place like I did with the Rebel XS)
