Here's a crazy question.........I have two Sandisk Ultra 15mb/s SDHC cards and one SanDisk regular SD card. I can edit the photos fine off of my regular SD card but the on the Ultra SDHC's I cannot edit the photos at all. Its like they are protected or something. Any ideas on whats going on here?

It could be that the write protect tab is on> There's a little tab on the SD/SDHC cards that if switched, will write protect them, restricting you from writing/formatting or deleting anything from the card.

Thanks but no thats not it. I checked that. Actually I am having the problem after I transfer all of the images to my computer then try to edit them such as shrink the file size down or even crop the image. It wont allow me to do anything.

How are you transferring the files to the computer? Card reader? Are you sure the files from the SDHC cards are all being transferred over correctly (check file sizes on card and on computer for starters)?

What camera are you using SDHC cards in?
What software application and version do you use for editing?
RAW files or JPEG?

Might the problem simply be inability of your software to read the photos from a newer model camera?!

From his gear list, I'm assuming a Nikon Coolpix S4000, which does JPEG only, but accepts SDHC cards. Since he can edit the files from the SD card, but not from the SDHC cards, I'm assuming a problem with his reader coping with the download of the files (they appear to be coming across to the computer, from what he said, just in an uneditable form, when he uses the SDHC cards).

i'm assuming you can actually view the file, but you cannot edit it. try right-clicking the file and checking its properties. make sure it's not a read-only file.

Hi all, I just got home. Yes it is with my Nikon CoolPix. And the particular software that this is not working with is Microsoft Digital Image Pro 10, mainly what I try to do is just shrink the file size down or just crop the image and when I try to save it it comes up with an error and says that it cannot be saved. I will check the actual files and see if they are "read only". That makes sense. I will get back to you guys.
Thanks!

I just took a photo and copied it to my desktop. In the properties the "read only" box is not checked so that's not it. I just tried to crop it in Microsoft Digital Image Pro 10 and when I went to save it it came up with an error that said the image cannot be saved. It only does this with these SDHC cards.

What happens if you File, Save As (give it new name)...does it let you save the edited version?

Do the file sizes on the card and on the computer match? Are you downloading from the camera directly or with a card reader? Same card reader for both SD and SDHC cards?

Try downloading one of the various free utilities like IrfanView (external link) and resizing using that.

Just checked and file sizes are the same. I have been plugging the usb cable into my camera and taking them that way. I took the card out of the camera and put it into the card slot on my computer and it wont do anything, it just locks up the computer screen and wont open. Maybe there is a problem with these SDHC cards.
