I envy you.

If you find yourself in the Nuremberg area, drop me a PM and I will buy you a beer or four.

When you get to Bangkok, feel free to shoot me a PM and I can show you around a bit if you would like. I'm not expert but if you have never been here before it's a bit overwhelming at first.

Amazing plan, good luck on the trip! It's gonna be a hot summer here in the Philippines.

I am so jealous. I would absolutely LOVE to do this. How
man TB of hard drive space are you taking!

You know, I was just thinking about this. Gonna have a 2TB external and about 400GB freed up on my laptop. Thinking I'm going to be shooting RAW very sparingly.

What were you expecting, an ego boost? You won't be the first to do this kind of trip

Ah...no but thanks for playing. Was looking for advice, feedback and maybe people abroad who I could connect with.

By the way, If you're going to be in Vietnam and Thailand anyway, you should really stop off in Cambodia to see the Angkor area (and Lao too, if you can manage). It can be done surprisingly quickly and very cheaply...and really, don't be surprised if you end up spending more time in SE Asia than you expected to!

Also, big kudos on having the fortitude to leave your job, particularly in this economic environment. I myself have decided to try to get as much travel in as I can before I settle into a career (or "if" :D). I'm 27 now, and so far, 4 of my 5 post-college jobs have been in foreign countries. I've never done more than 2 straight months of pure travel, though... but I'd really, really like to. Of course, the negative side here is that when I do attempt to start a career, I'm going to be hitting the entry level at the same time as a wave of people 6 or 7 years younger than I am. I'll get back to you in 2025 or so as to whether or not it was all worth it!

Out of curiosity, what gear are you taking? I'd absolutely invest a few hundred bucks in a cheap 2nd body if you haven't already. Or even a micro 4/3 body as well. If there's one thing I regret about my time in Asia (aside from, *cough*, several botched romantic opportunities), it's that I had nothing but a Powershot S50 with me. Still got some great pictures, but none of them are going to be printed any larger than 8x10. So, you really don't want to wind up losing your only body (through whatever means) and being left with nothing!

Oh, and if you by some bizarre happenstance pass through Autun, France, I'd be happy to show you around. It'll take all of an hour!

I second Cambodia - it's amazing and the people are just great. I didn't fancy Laos too much tho!

Angkor Wat/Siem reap is only a few hours by bus from Bangkok, so it's easily do-able. It's a pretty amazing place but the big temples are a bit too touristy and I didn't enjoy them so much for photography. It is crazy though, so many temples!

I wouldn't suggest taking a second body. I traveled for 4 months with my 5d ii and it was my first time really backpacking. You really don't need ANY extra weight to carry with you, the lighter you can travel the better. Just always keep your camera by you and be sensible.

Yeah, the "big temples" were by far my least favorite part of the area. Some of the smaller ones are fantastic, though. There are a few smaller complexes in the area, for example, that are half-ruined - and, given that the whole place is close to lawless, you are free to explore every nook and cranny.

About the 2nd body... I don't know. You're absolutely right on the space/weight front, which is why I suggested the m4/3 body. I would just hate to be robbed halfway through a trip like that and end up with NO camera, you know?

Alright, figured I would update this post since I have some good replies. Still stateside and decided to not put a date on departure. Going to copy and paste something from another forum I belong too.

Alright, time to post in this thread again. No the world travels abroad have not started but travels in the US have. The world travel project (which is photography based) is now being pitched to corporations for sponsorship so I decided to quit putting a date on my expected departure.

I'll be gone when the moment is right and financial backing is in place. Have secured two decent sponsorships and others look promising. I currently find myself in West Texas visiting family since I have to do that before leaving. Next week will have me leaving on a moto tour with my buddy Craig. Leaving from Austin, TX, headed West to the Pacific then up North towards Canada. Should take 3-4 weeks.

Read about it here - http://www.jaymarroquin.com …s/riding-west-with-mooty/ (external link)

can you c/n this sponsorship thing?

Hotrodguru wrote in post #33875609 (external link)
While abroad I'm doing the following:
- 2 fashion spreads as of now. One in Vietnam, one in Kenya
- Main reason I'm traveling however is to capture images for 2 books I'm doing, "Reflection" and "Dreams"
- Few designers and friends in the Fashion Industry are interested in sponsoring or collaborating for the Fashion stuff.
- Other peeps and corporations to be involved on the adventure photography thing

I don't think the Earth revolves around me. It revolves around the Sun, which shines out of my ass.

NO MAN!! Of course I'm going to make it there, just don't know when. The cities I put on the original list are just the for sure spots. Others can be added, removed or traded out. Basically just think of it like this. I'm going to hit up a ****load of cool crazy places :)
