I've noticed absolutely no problems with my 1D4 + 70-200 2.8II combination in all sorts of lighitng situations (mostly outdoors). Exposures have been REALLY well controlled - PLus I shoot in RAW anyways so any blowouts are easily recovered...

As said before, really sounds like the lens itself

This is what I expect from the 85 at 1.2. Was this a raw or jpeg. If raw run through with DPP and on the NR/Lens/ALO tag tick the CA and blur buttons and see if this rectifies the problem It works for me.

You shouldn't have many CA problems with a 2.8 lens. ;)

The 85L gets really a lot better from about 1.6/1.8.

So do the 24, 50 & 135L's.

What's in common here? Wide open, fast lens, high contrast, oversaturated sensor... I still say sensor blooming / microlens CA is a possible contributor to this.

@jacobsen, no I didn't have the 85L back then. I got it the day after I got my MkIV. Also, what's MA?

Wow. The 85L is known for CA wide open but that has got to be one of the more extreme examples of it that I have seen. As someone else noted this is a lens issue.

hmmm...actually I can reproduce those CA results on occasion with my 85L wide open...think its really a lens issue? I always thought it came with the territory of having a really fast prime. anyone else with 85L care to comment?

btw, my 35L has a little CA also, not as bad though.

Only an untrained eye can appreciate the sharpness of a lens...

@40dbaby, it seems the issue is not really an ISSUE. It's just how the lens gets in high contrast situations when shooting wide-open. Bottom of page 2, there's a shot of a little boy in a tux and you can see some similarly serious fringing in the high-contrast between his black jacket and his white shirt or whatever.
