Just looking for confirmation that my assumptions are correct.
Using the following settings:

Auto - flash "intensity" is adjusted by the camera.

P,AV,TV - Flash "intensity" is determined by me hitting the 4 way button up and then adjusting from -2 to +2.

Besides the obvious use of bounce or difussion, I just want to make sure the "brightness" of flash doesn't seem to intense on the subject. Please forgive the laymens terminology.

TIA

Joe

By the way the flash was an excellent investment for my G6, but I want to make sure I get the most our of it.
Also, I have been using non rechargable batteries, manual says I should get like 200 flashes. Thought it was not worth having to worry about recharging or worrying if the batteries were charged when I needed the flash. I carry spares in my bag at all times. Thoughts appreciated.

I really like the G6 and 420EX. For the best pictures, I use a Lumiquest pocket bouncer to soften the light and a Quantum 1+ off flash battery pack to provide up to 300+ full power flashes with very little recycle time. The Quantum battery 1+ was bought used on eBay and the battery hookup (Quantum MF3) new from Adorama.com.

I like that pocket bouncer! I'm going to have to get one of those. Right now I'm using a 3x5 index card attached to my 420EX. I point it about 45 degrees and play with it to find a good bounce.

Here's an article on doing that if you don't have a pocket bouncer.
