I have volunteered to be a back up shooter for a non profit 5k road race and walk. What lens do you like to use for this? I'm thinking 50mm on 10d and 70-200 & 17-35 on 5d. Any helpfull hints will be most appreciated.thanks

Sep 10, 2010 12:06 | #3 It depends upon where the best angle is from, but I prefer a long lens. If possible, I like to get them coming around a corner, then as they run, they get out of your way as new runners appear. Every race is different though. Here's 300mm f2.8 as I'm sitting on the curb across the street and ahead of the runners about 100 ft. Corners are good for short lenses too since the runners will naturally cut it tight allowing you to get in close without getting in their way. My pictures: John Wilke Photography
