why not just get a 3442 (external link)?

May consider that one. Was not previously aware the 3441T was a kitted thing.

Is it better to deal directly with Feisol or the guys at Big Camera?
(Considering warranty, etc)

Thanks

Jim

ReallyBigCameras is an authorized reseller, really friendly, and really knowledgeable. You can email him for your own piece of mind but when I'm ready to pull the trigger here shortly he's hands down getting my business (I think I asked him 50 million questions already and he's responded patiently and honestly every time).

You can see the warranty policy here:

From here on out I need a little advice. In the past I settled for rather lighter equipment
and my photo results showed it. Is the above combination substantial for the demanding
situations one can get into in the back country with moderate weight equipment I described?

Thank you

Jim

I would get a tripod setup which is just under the weight that would tempt me to leave it at home. I can't count the number of times when having something with me that I did not think initially I would need made me miss an extraordinary shot.

If you can carry a 4 pound Gitzo for eight hours, and would not think twice about doing that, then the Feisol is too light. If anything over 2.27 lbs means you would leave it at home, get the Feisol.

As a student, every little penny counts, so I think I'll go for the photoclam. ;)They seem to get very nice reviews, too...!

Marco, I have two different photo clams for my two tripods. While I would have preferred a markins, I don't think there is a significant enough difference between them. They're both Korean made and both appear to be of high quality. I don't regret my purchase of the photo clams they have been solid and dependable during My usage. No complaints here!

Yes, where did that name come from?

That my friend I cannot answer. I have no idea. Only possible explanation I can think of is perhaps the English translation created this odd name. It could be something totally different in Korean.

Another thing: does your 3441T fold all the way with the PC-40? Or do the legs stick out a bit?

The base of the PC-40 is 58mm, that of the Q3t is 50. Each leg will stick out about 4mm more around on the PC compared to the Q3t Markins.

I haven't noticed it to stick out much. I'll be home tomorrow and I can take a photo of it. I picked the PC-40 based on Kerry's recommendation. As far as I've ever noticed the legs fold completely. The base is larger sure, but It's never been an issue. Still fits easily in the included carrying bag.

When I get home later today I will upload that and show you. Kerry also said the PC-36n would be just fine but I wanted something a hair larger because I would be using a 70-200 from time to time on it. I figured it would be better to air on the side of caution ;). Though I'm sure the PC-36 would have been just fine.

This is more of a bump than anything but I ordered the 3442 and PC-44 ball head. Seems to be about the most I can get and still fit the backpack needs.

Thanks

Jim

nice. the 3441t has the legs of the 3442. so trying to use a 3441t without the center column would be a waste of money. the 3442 has a wider diameter, but gives you more options, has almost identical specs, and is cheaper.

Marco! Sorry I'm so late, I got home late today and had to start working on a music video right away, I took a minute to snap a couple pics for reference for you.
