Try taking a telephoto lens to photograph the White House. You will have 3 snipers aiming straight for your forehead.

Use a Bush Hawk shoulder mount on your camera, then try taking a photo of the white house.

Now what. We'll be out at air shows, the zoo, public events w/ our gear & get the pat down? :-x

Haha :) I've always wondered how the security at an US airport would react if you had one of those with you while entering the country.

Police and para-police in London have been habitually wiping cards and ordering tourists not to photograph all sorts of buildings all over the place for some years. They claim anti-terrorism. It's become quite a cause célèbre.

Never had a problem. I have seen USSS tell folks they can not use a tripod due to it being a tripping hazard though.

I had a small mast upon which I mounted a camera to take photos from an extended height (about thirty feet) and some lady watched me for a while. Eventually she came up to me and said, "what are you doing? You're scaring me half to death."

I replied, "what are you afraid of." I stated it as a statement instead of a question.

Some people just want to be afraid all the time.

My father-in-law said something that stuck with me: Most people don't fear what they should, but do fear what they shouldn't."

Just like children. They'll jump right into the ocean on a rough day or barge across a busy road, but then beg you to close the closet door or check under the bed.

Most adults are no different. They run around worried about terrorists but rarely stop to think that if they get killed it will most likely be by a fellow citizen, and even more likely by a friend or family member.

Thank you. bw!

Sorry, but you are all talking through your hat ... there are places for this kind of activity and there are places that it should not be done. And when some law enforcement type misses the terrorist snapping photos of airports and terminals, they pay holy hell for sleeping on the job. It's a complicated and very scary business.
