Well i wanted to post up here before i place my order and be safe. LinkDelight seems to be the only seller of this tripod and cheapest price. I can't find reviews about it directly but from my extensive research the GX models are the same as the flashpoints sold on adorama. Has anyone used triopo carbon tripods? and any experience with purchasing tripods from link delight? also there ebay store won't match there prices on there own site so im reluctant on dealing with ordering from there site directly but would save me a lot more $$$

here are the links to the tripod

http://www.linkdelight.com …all-Head/flypage.tpl.html (external link)

http://www.linkdelight.com …tailed-product-flyer.html (external link)

http://cgi.ebay.com …ain_0&hash=item35ab8258d2 (external link)

the reason im going with this tripod is because im looking for a compact light portable tripod at a reasonable price especially since it also comes with a decent head.

also me and my friend are planning to both buy so the shipping from the site would be cheaper and it would be a total cost of about $211.00 each

Google "Dolica Proline" and see what carbon fiber tripods are out there. I have one that I paid $99 for a while back, these days they go for around $140 or so I think. Great tripod, great ball head. Came with an extra plate, and a little wrench/tool for tightening the leg locks if they came loose. So far they haven't shown any signs of loosening, but the little tool was a nice addition.

The one you are looking at looks pretty decent, but why spend so much when there's another that is similar for less money.

thx yeah i looked into those models as well but the reason why i wanted the triopo is because i wanted a tripod that would fold around 19"s(triopo 17"s) as well as weight around 3lbs(triopo 2.7lb's) as well as have a rubber twist lock on its legs compared to a plastic latch. thx for the suggestion though.

I have "researched" the Triopo brand for two weeks. Im thinking about the GT-228, the NB-2S ballhead and the short center column. Price for legs+head+column is $207, but shipping price is quite high ($55 from China) so I might get it elsewhere.

I did find some useful reviews, especially on this polish website reviewing the GT-228C tripod/monopod combo:

You'll need to google translate from polish.

Part 1:
http://gfoto.pl/News/Article325.aspx (external link)

Part 2:
http://gfoto.pl/News/Article344.aspx (external link)

and last but not least, a video of it in action:
http://www.youtube.com …eature=player_profilepage (external link)

here are some other places with Triopo reviews for various models:

Swedish tripod review:
http://fotointresse.se/viewtopic.php?f=22&t=7806 (external link)

German ballhead review:
http://www.traumflieger.de …p/ballhead/ballheads3.php (external link)

Im weighing the Triopo against similar Feisol, Redged and Benro models in terms of price, features, weight, folded and extended size etc. I'm not 100% decided yet, but I hope these links are better than nothing. If you end up getting the GT-3228x8, i'd be interested in your assessment

thx a lot yeah i've actually been trying to find the "c" model as well since watching that video. How would u purchase from tripo directly i don't see any type of way to purchase from there site, can u share a link? so your saying for $207 + 55 shipping for the full combo head and "c" model tripod hmm not bad to get a tripod that converts to a mono.. on ebay the tripod alone goes for $200 and the head probably around $70 might be better off getting from ebay for the assurance..

I emailed and asked where to buy it and got a reply just an hour later saying it can be ordered from them directly or the polish distributor (that doesnt reply to my email). Btw, the price is for the GT-228 and not the C version tri/mono, the only difference is that the non-C version is taller and does not have a detachable leg. Just exactly how/where I will pay is still a mystery, but I haven't gotten that far in the process yet. I would normally just have ordered it from ebay, but I need a valid reciept for my business and thats why im looking into buying it from a shop.

If you translate the second part of the polish review, he mentions that theres a bit of play in the center column which he also shows for a brief moment at around 3:12/3:14 in the video. This could be a problem in very windy conditions, but I think it can be easily fixed or worked around and a flaw i could live with regarding its low price.

Wow that's kind of a lot of play, problem is I don't kno exactly what he's saying if it was just not tightend lol..doesn't make sense to have a tripod with that much play. The thing i noticed is that I think they had two versions of the gt one with a wing lock for the center column and another with the rubberized twist lock. I have to check for pics again.

*edit I reread that u translated that part of the video

Sorry for bringing up an old post, but just wanted to share my experiences on a Triopo GT-3228X8C tripod and RS-1 ballhead I recently bought. Just to clarify, this is the version with the twist locks and detachable leg.

There is absolutely no play in the center column in my copy, so the one on the youtube video must've been a bad copy. The RS-1 is a small and light, no-frills ballhead without a detachable plate. First impressions of both the tripod and the head are good. Will post more experiences after I've gotten some actual use out of them.

I have the TRIOPO GT128 ( basically the older series and a bit thinner/lighter + no removable leg). When I first got it the center column was not only wobbly but it would not lock properly. Before sending it back I stripped it down to see what was wrong eg part missing/faulty or grease on locking collars. I could find absolutely nothing wrong so I re-assembled it prior to shipping back, gave it one last try and guess what? No wobble + very strong lockup - nearly as good as my Gitzos! I have absolutely no idea how this happened as it was put back together in the same order - but I am happy so I don't care! The moral is if you get a "Wobbly" one - take it apart before you send it back.
As to heads have a look at the TRIOPO RS1 or RS3. I have the RS3 - it's small/light/CHEAP and will EASILY support a 600F4 + 1D4 at any angle! It is also the smoothest ball head I have tried and has completely put me off wasting hundreds of pounds on the "TOP" brands - the ones I have tried (mainly ARCAs) simply cannot cope with what the RS3 will do. I lock this head just the same with a 100 F2.8 or a 600 F4 just a light twist of the locking lever is quite enough. The RS3 is certainly overkill, but light and cheap, I have not used the RS1, but it uses the same locking system, so it's probably still overkill but it's even smaller/cheaper and weighs only 170Gram - still rated to carry 10 kilo.

Life is for living, cameras are to capture it (one day I will learn how!).
