:D I finally made the decision between the 100-400mm and the 300mm f/4. I went with the 300mm and the 1.4x. I am just tickled pink. I just recieved it in the mail today. The best news of all is I bought it from a very nice guy on www.fredmiranda.com (external link) I got an awesome deal. I have never bought anything of value like this used before. The lens was advertised in Mint Condition and thats exactly what it was.....A true Mint Beauty!!!! Tonight is a Full Moon. What timing, I am so excited:lol:

Good luck to all those shooting the Moon tonight and thanks for reading and any comments you might have.;)

Yes, you got a good deal. I saw that one.

I just bought one new but besides paying high UK prices (tho' I got a great deal!!!) I also have to wait 2-4 weeks for delivery from Canon ... which probably means I'll get it the day after the £100 Canon rebate on this lens runs out

Oh well .... enjoy yours. Maybe you'll report the 300mm L sucks and so I can still cancel my order and get the 100-400 ;) Ever the optomist!!

Congrats on the purchase Brittany!

And congrats to you too Dave, as long as it turns up in the next 5 months you should be good for the rebate! Hope it doesn't take quite that long though - the waiting will drive you mad! ;) :D

Congrats. Someday too, I hope to have that 3 lens lineup.... 24-70L, 70-200L and 300L.

Have fun with it!

Well, unless it's december in England, I doubt you'll have a problem with that... :)

Got one SH without IS a couple of weeks back but haven't really had a chance to try it out yet... depending on how I like it, I might sell it and get the IS version before christmas, just because of the sweet 150€ cashback on it now...

A 20D with katzeye screen, tons of lenses, a couple of
pods, a flash and some bags. Also some MF cameras,
like a RZ67, Moskva 5 and Agfa Isolette I, II, III :)

I had someone ask me to send them picture of 70-200 with 1.4x wide open @ f/4 and the other with my new 300 wide open @ f/4. So I thought I would post the difference here for everyone to see also....Enjoy

here is a picture of the moon I took tonight with the 300mm + 1.4x. All I had was monopod, so its a little on the soft side. I was kinda surprised. All the lenses added up to 672mm. I expected moon to be a little bigger. havent compared with the 70-200 shot I have taken though. I guess this is about right. Well enjoy! I love the stabalizer:D

Brittany, thanks for sending me the full size files. At 100%, the prime simply smokes the 70-200+TC; it isn't even a contest. Looks like you got a keeper, enjoy.
