I read on Canon website that EOS 60D accessories is WFT-E3

here (external link)

and here (external link)

It says, WFT-E3 compatible with EOS 40D, 50D, etc

And then I realized,
60D battery are the same with 7D
40D, 50D are using BP-511

How come BP-511 battery compartment inserted with LP-E6 (use by 5D Mark II and 7D) ?

Did Canon make a mistake ?

Either the LP-E6 is backwards compatible with the BP-511 (i.e. it fits in the same hole), or the BP-511 puts out enough power the 5DII, 7D and 60D (more than likely, can't see the cameras being more power hungry). If the latter is the case then the only mistake from Canon is that users of the grip with LP-E6 will have to buy a BP-511, good for Canon as they'll sell some more batteries but bad for the user as they'll have a battery that only works in the grip.

The WFT-E3 uses the BP-511 to only power the wireless functions of the grip, you would still need the LP-E6 in the 60D body for the camera. So you would need the LP-E6 and the BP-511

^ This.

Unlike a typical grip, this doesn't use your camera's battery. (The camera still does.) So they don't have to be the same battery.

Thankfully the 60D now uses SD cards so you can just use eyefi cards instead of having to buy that. :)

At Canon, they don't make mistakes! They make profits :)
That is one really funky looking grip.
