The saturation in the first one's fine but it's just that the darkness and the over-sharpening kills it for me.
I like the second one though.

the issue with the PP you did on the first photo is the white outline around the birds. it really bothers me. there is some noise around the sun on the clouds too that could be reduced a little. i would saturate a little more than the original, but not as much as the first photo.

second photo is flawless. apart from breaking the rule of thirds, which i love.

The first doesn't have the foreground light to match the sun especially with it still being so high above the horizon and clear of cloud, where as the second one is missing the big orange shiny thing.
