This is my first time using strobes on a car. I wanted to test out the YN460II's i got in a real shoot. Only had 30 minutes total for the shoot including set up time which explains the lack of variety in angles etc.

(2) YN460II + (1) 430EX all bare.

Let me know how I did and what I can do to improve? Also please let know which one is your "favorite" in case I use these in a portfolio later.

TIA!

Car info: B20 swapped. ITR transmission. Koni Yellow + GC coilovers. Rear sway bar. Daily driven but the car sees plenty of action around the cones at the local SCCA autox events.

Nice result. But why take so many photos from the same angle with the same lighting? Just pick the best one per angle/lighting setup and throw it up :).

The lighting looks great. I should pick up a couple of those things, been meaning to do that for a while.

What'd you use to fire the YN460II's? I want to grow my flash collection and I'm looking at using either Cybersync's or PocketWizards for the flashes. I currently have 1 580exII. I'd like to purchase 2 more flashes. I don't know what to buy and what to fire them with. I don't really want to purchase 2 more 580exII's if I don't have to.

pocket wizards are the way to go. incredibly reliable anddd durable. and 580 II's are the greatest, grab two more of those bad boys and your set.

two more speedlights + pocket wizards to control all will put you close to $1k in equipment I bet. you can buy some nice monolights and modifiers for that.

the only time i shoot ettl is when the flash goes on the camera. i prefer the manual control when using off camera flash because i control every part of the exposure this way and when i go back to edit all of the exposures are the same (equals much faster workflow for me)

i updated my sig with my new equipment. two YN460II set me back like $96 shipped to my door. RF-602 radio trigger and 3 receivers set me back $50-75 (i forget what i paid honestly, but it was dirt cheap)

i haven't had a mis-fire with them yet even though they're considered "cheap ebay crap". they only work in manual mode but that's fine with me. Once I feel like I'm outgrowing this setup I'll step up to some form of portable studio strobes but right now i'm loving the portability and the results i get from cheap little speedlights.
