My sister-in-law asked me to do her senior shots. I haven't done anything else like that except for one portrait session for a friend of mine and his family. This was in Houston in the morning, it was muggy (making my lens fog like crazy) and the mosquitoes were swarming like I've never seen. All in all though, in the little less than an hour we had, I think I got a few good ones.

These were mostly with the nifty fifty and a 420EX speedlite with a cheapo plastic diffuser on it (sometimes mounted on-camera, sometimes on a tripod with a remote), shot with a 40D. Any and all C&C welcome!

Overall, they came out decent. Posing works and composition is okay. Personally, I feel what hurts you most is that tiny diffuser on that flash. Either shoot natural light or shoot with a brolly/softbox placed at eye level or above. #1 would have really benefited from this.

2 & 3 are a tad dark.

4 is my favorite but I might take a bit from the top.

5 is good but did you have to include that ghetto broken brick?

6 is good but would have been way better with OCF

7 is good but what did you use for PP? Whatever treatment you gave the BG is affecting her face as well.

Thanks for the input!

All I used for PP was Scarab to do the RAW conversion and a few adjustments. No photoshop or anything else. I didn't give the background any particular treatment, just general exposure correction, contrast, and saturation on the image as a whole.

Oh, and just got a mini-softbox for the flash (http://www.lumiquest.com/products/softbox-iii.htm (external link)), it came one day after I left for Houston. :(

2,3,4,5&7: Did you raise the vibrance on these at all?

Then maybe motion blur for that last one? Something just looks odd to me. Oh well :)
