Having learnt on a manual camera (no such thing as AF when I started) I've never found the AF on the 5DII to be a problem.

It's proving challenging to get a good shot with the 35L, due to sudden "dog attacks" at close range

Here's another
I have the same problem with my dog. He's too inquisitive and I rarely get him sitting still long enough to get a shot. I guess that's part of the fun?
