You do gradients, or brush blending?

You need to clean up the highlights more (by the tree, next to the present, etc...). You can see dark spots.

Also, your bottom picture is a bit red (on my calibrated screen).

Here's a couple from today's shoot. I did some family Christmas shots for them.

1/4 CTO gel on flash front/right of camera shot through umbrella set @ 1/2 power
1/4 CTO gel on fill flash mounted on Manfrotto flash bracket, set @ 1/8 power
Flash behind in LumiQuest PROMAX MINI SOFTBOX for highkey background set @ 1/2 power

Hope you're enjoying your stay in Hawaii. The weather has been very good the last week.

I just got back last week. I was staying at the Waikoloa beach resort, but my wife and I decided to horseback riding in Waipio Valley. It was hard getting shots there. Pouring rain. I didn't want to leave though, I'm sure I'll be back soon. What island are you on?

There wasn't many options for someone who wanted to rent or buy a L lens while on Big Island. I went to Lighthaus and they had absolutely nothing for me.

Woulda been good to know at that time. I was doing my landscape shots with a 24-70. I love it there and am sure I'll be back. Keep that in my bookmarks. Thanks

thats rad. Never been over to Hawaii, but, I wanna go really bad. I think my next "long" vacation will be to Hawaii.... I wanna come down and explore for at-least two weeks.

It's paradise like everyone says. Soo laid back. Really rich with culture, I only stayed for 6 days, you would need at least two weeks for sure to explore the Islands.

Heres some positive stuff for you. The images are posed nicely. They look like a happy lot. I like the first one best.
I do agree with the previous poster that the bottom pic is a bit red but the main problem that I see is the muddy white. This is especialy evident down at the bottom left of the bottom image.

To sort this out create a levels adjustment layer and push all sliders to the far right(nearly all the way). This will show up any dark spots on the image background. Select dodge with opacity of 3-5% set to highlight. Select the background layer and dodge away the dark spots. Once done you can bin the levels adjustment layer and you should have a nice clean background.
When using this method be careful not to go over areas on your subject that are highlights as they will dodge too. If you do this by mistake you can easily mask them back out though.
