Is the fullframe worth it, even on a 1-2 year old 5d model? Or should I just buy a brand new 7d and wait another year or so for a 5dmkii?? I do weddings, newborn, child and family portraits. I just don't know much about the different features of the cameras besides full frame.
I also do not know how the lenses work with these two cameras. Will any of the lenses I have listed below fit these two cameras?
Thanks.

unless something is broken, all your lenses will work on a crop body... the 7d... EF-S lenses won't work on full frame body... the 5d

for me, the biggest difference is the reach distances. on the 5d, your lenses will not reach as far... err... example, your 55-250 at 250 will be much shorter than what you're used to now.

I'd buy based on warranty. :)

There is quite a big difference in noise at high ISOs between these cameras. I would go with the 7D UNLESS you always use lighting and don't need high ISOs. Or... if you really love to shoot really wide, get the 5D - but you will need a new wide angle lens.

5Dc's are getting pretty old and I'd worry about reliability. I'm not a fan of the 7D, though. If it were me, I'd settle for a 50D or 60D or find the extra $'s for a 5D2

Personally, I would go for the 5Dc, however, you would have to swap out almost all of your lenses, which is a big bummer and might make the 7D a smarter choice...but the full frame is so amazing especially if you are wedding photographer who does a lot of low light work.

To help with this, there are about 7262 threads about this subject.

For me... if you don't shoot video or sport/nature... 5DC is the way to go.

Only your 85mm will work on a 5D.

The 55-250 won't even mount on a full-frame (or even 1.3 crop) body. And if it did, it won't have a large enough image circle.

i only gave example... it's up to her to know if that lens would fit. :)

I think for your situation you should get the 7d. Peacefield brings up a good point about reliability, and that shouldnt be something you should have to worry about before you start this up.

Buy the 7d, buy a lot of lenses, then buy a 5d3 (if it ever comes out).

I have a 5D II and the 7D. I love them both. With your lens line up, I would definitely recommend the 7D. I had the 5D classic and it just didn't have the feature set I wanted. YMMV.

Since you have a speedlight, you have a built in off camera flash system.

The 5Dc has one main advantage over the 7D: thinner DOF. This is very important for portrait photographers. However, in my opinion, the 7D beats the 5Dc in almost every other category right now. Also, your lens lineup would need to change big time. You should get the 7D.

I personally like having a full frame AND crop sensor line-up. Since you already have a 30D I'm tempted to tell you to get the 5Dc. However, with your lenses unless you have a lot of money to upgrade your glass I'd get the 7D. It's a fun camera (I just ordered it myself!) and you'll notice a huge improvement over the 30D just in general performance. Save your money and get a 5DII later. It'll be a great companion to your 7D.

Search for the Canon Loyalty program thread. Turn in an old P&S and get a refurbished mark II. You'll get there eventually, may as well skip the baby steps. Save the 7D for sports. Or wait till 2011 for the mark III, all the mark II will be going for less.
