I love my T1i and the images it produces. But with the 24-70 2.8 and 70-200 2.8L lenses Its just too small.

Not to mention (like many on here im sure) I'm about 6'1" and my hands dominate this small body.

Of course, if money wasn't an issue I'd get a 5DMKII or some full frame body, even a 7D would be awesome. But I don't have the money to do that right now.

Would I be "downgrading" or losing too much in design if I went to a 40D? I know the 50D is about the same with the larger body, FPS, and some other here and there things.

Would would you guys do? I'm trying to trade my 70-200L for the new body. If I could get a 40D and cash that'd be optimal (I could use an extra 400 bucks or so) but a 50D or 5Dc would be cool too. Any inputs? Will I hate teh 40D after the T1i?

Taylor.
I think you would be happy with the 40D, provided that you dont want video. I have both the 40D and the 5D and the 40D is relegated to backup status. The 5D is just that good and enjoyable. But you do have issues with the field of view changing with your lenses when you move to full frame.

Have you tried a grip on your current body to bulk it up some?

i want a new body too. thinking lots of protein and some exercise will do :)

i understand what you mean. the xxxD bodies are too small for those lenses. made for efs lenses really. Go for the 50d imo. it's a great camera with those lenses should perform much better than the 40d. Oh and don't sell your lenses. those are the worth while investments. Keep the lenses and if you can afford the 50d, get the 40d through the CLP for less than $500.

I personally wouldn't call a T1i to a 40D a downgrade, unless movies and megapixels are important to you. The 40D is an excellent camera. My favourite.

Overall, I think the 40D would be a great solution for you. There are few differences that you should be aware of, though:

40D vs T1i
Lower res sensor: 10MP vs 15MP
Lower res LCD: 230k dots vs 920k
Higher continuous shooting: 6.5fps vs 3.4fps
Higher max shutter speed: 1/8000s vs 1/4000s
No video: none vs HD recording
Lower ISO range: 100 - 3200 w/expansion vs 100 - 12800 w/expansion
Older gen image processor: Digic III vs Digic 4
Different image media: Compact Flash (CF) vs SD/SDHC

Overall, I'd still, personally, go with the 40D; but as the user you'll have to make the decision as to what of those things is important to you and what isn't.

You would see a difference when looking at Digic 3 images compared to Digic 4. Get a 50D would make the most sense in your position in my opinion.

Why not a 5d classic?

I'd say the 40D would definitely be too much of a downgrade for this alone. If you do go the route of getting a different body, get a 50D, 60D, or 7D, whichever you can afford..

Alternatively, you could always get a grip for the T1i since it doesn't sound like you really need the benefits of a prosumer grade or higher at this point.

What are you shooting?

That'd be the biggest factor on recommending a body. Im gonna say 5dc or 50D depending on what you shoot.

well guys if you look at my sig, i already have a grip. Still don't like it.

I'm open to finding a used 5Dc, but it looks like I can get a 60D at the same price as the 50D now. And 3 years no intrest at best buy. I'll have to consider it.

I shoot everything to everything haha. I do portraits, landscapes, macro, and sporting events.

50D is a bargain, with a warranty. Great for sport or wildlife action.
when the 60D hits stores - see how it feels. Otherwise, 50DDDD....

Buy my 1Dmk2. That'll get you the added girth to balance those lenses.

:D
