I take it that you mean action shots. You need to consider the lighting for volleyball. Most HS gyms have very poor lighting. I shoot it with an 85 f/1.8 lens, usually at f/2.0 and an ISO of 1600 which allows me to use a SS of 1/500. You need to ask if you can use your flash for volleyball. It's not allowed in some gyms. Find out before the game, you don't want them to tell you to stop.
I have my first volleyball game of the season on Tuesday 9.14

Enjoy shooting them

I'm in CT, which school are you shooting at.

BTW: I like the Bichon shot (2190) Seems to have the same attitude as ours.

If you go on the CIAC website, you can select the sport, team and get their scehdule, home and away games along with times. This goes for all HS sports in the state.

Your current equiptment looks fine for afternoon soccer, however, you will need faster glass for indoor volleyball's action shots. Using single direct flash most likely will get you asked to stop by the officials. At least that's been my experience in CT.
Shooting soccer, you might want to try the corners up to approx. 20 yard line. Now if the soccer is under the lights, you can shoot direct flash with no problem. Of course getting the flash off your camera is preferred to reduce red eye. Hope this helps.
