Trees springing out of mid air just dont work for me. Its not that the ground was interesting, but its necessary context.

I wouldn't mind the missing ground if the green brush wasn't there. A more fisheye effect may even pull it off even more.

I agree with the two comments above. I would also try dropping the ISO a bit to get rid of the noise in the sky.

I also like yellows and blues, but this composition doesn;t work for me, and the focus seems soft?

I like the colors, but the composition is not working for me.

Where in CO are you? I'm in Colorado Springs.

I think it would work if the green bush wasn't there and there were more Aspens (and they were straight).

I'm in Crested Butte for another 2 days.

Well I went back to re-shoot, but alot of leaves had been blown off so I tried to find some others. I don't really think these shots are anything special, but thought I'd see what others say anyway..

I like the second one best.

Have you been through Kebler Pass yet? I'm curious because if the lower trees are turning, I wonder if the higher trees in the Pass are turning too.

Sorry to bother you so many questions. I would hate to miss Kebler Pass two years in a row. I went out last year after that snow storm at the end of Sept and it stripped most the leaves off. I actually got my best shots that trip on the east side of Monarch Pass. There was this small grove with a stream running through it. Great place for some close up shots....not so great for landscape shots. ;) Also, if you have a 9 or 10 stop ND filter, it's a great place to blur the water and have the stream lined by aspens.

Thanks in advance for any info you can share with me!

Maybe I'm the only one, but I kind of like the original with no ground. The leaves and trunks contrast with the sky well. I can't decide if the green bush belongs though. Try taking a similar shot, but with the trunks straight up and down with no ground.
