Hi, I have tried many software to convert my large size JPG file into small size, so that can email or post to my friends, but after that most image will lost details. Is there anyone can share with me how to do it can reduce image size and still keep details and looks sharp?

Thanks!

High resolution - many pixels - means finer detail can be resolved. That is why people buy 7Ds. So when you throw away millions of pixels that fine detail is lost. It is inevitable. Plus downsizing always results in a loss of sharpness, which is why you should sharpen after resizing.

How big are the original images (pixel dimensions and file size in MB), and how small do you want to make them? If you could link to one sample image (original), that would be most helpful.

It also depends which hosting site you use. The same images on Flickr look way better than on Smugmug, for some reason. I'm still struggling with downsizing and sharpnening for Smugmug.

Bohdan - I may be, and probably am, completely wrong.
